2026 Board Members
Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley is proud to have an engaged Board of Directors full of caring and dedicated leaders who volunteer their time to make a difference to the kids who need it most. This special group of men and women includes our community’s elected officials, educators, law enforcement, business leaders, as well as parents and grandparents of Club members. The Club is grateful for their vision, leadership, and willingness to do whatever it takes for our community’s kids.

Executive Leadership Team
Art Groeneveld
Chief Executive Officer
Art’s career at the Boys & Girls Club spans 30 years, during which Mr. Groeneveld served as Executive Director, Director of Development, Athletics Director and more. In addition to his role at the Boys & Girls Club, he is an active community volunteer, dedicated to helping children, families, and seniors in the Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach communities. He serves on the board of directors of Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and is a Lifetime Member and past President of Fountain Valley Kiwanis Club. Mr. Groeneveld holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Springfield College.

Ryan Brenes
Chief Operating Officer
Ryan has more than a dozen years of experience at Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley, including roles as Unit Director at several of the Club’s locations. He is an alum of the organization’s Kingston Branch and is proud to have his two children attend the Club as well. Ryan is skilled in making each of our staff members feel valued and empowered while helping them reach the highest standards of quality programming for the youth we serve. Ryan is certified by Boys & Girls Clubs of America as a Level I NTI trainer and serves on the steering committee for Imagine Science Orange County. He holds a degree in Cognitive Science from UC San Diego.
Laura Portier-LaLumiere
Chief Advancement Officer
Laura has led the organization’s fundraising and marketing for more than 20 years. Laura loves to share the stories of children and families that the Boys & Girls Club has made a difference to and she is dedicated to ensuring that the Club’s programs are accessible to the families who need them most. In addition to her work at the Club, she serves as a volunteer and board member for nonprofits focused on education and youth sports and she is a digital content creator for the City Mom Collective. Laura has a bachelor’s degree in English from Mount St. Mary’s University (MD), a master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from Regis University, and was named Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 2025 National Development Professional of the Year.

More than 250 trained individuals make up the professional staff of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley. Listed below is our Leadership Team. In addition to the Leadership Team, our Program Directors, Preschool Teachers, Recreation Staff, Office Managers, Office Assistants, Advancement Staff, Bus Drivers, League Coordinators, Sports Referees, Contracted Performing & Martial Arts Instructors, and facility-related Support Staff all make a difference to the kids at the Boys & Girls Club every day.
