Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley is proud to have an engaged Board of Directors full of caring and dedicated leaders who volunteer their time to make a difference to the kids who need it most. This special group of men and women includes our community’s elected officials, educators, law enforcement, business leaders, as well as parents and grandparents of Club members. The Club is grateful for their vision, leadership, and willingness to do whatever it takes for our community’s kids.

Executive Leadership Team
Art Groeneveld
Chief Executive Officer
Art’s career at the Boys & Girls Club spans 30 years, during which Mr. Groeneveld served as Executive Director, Director of Development, Athletics Director and more. In addition to his role at the Boys & Girls Club, he is an active community volunteer, dedicated to helping children, families, and seniors in the Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach communities. He serves on the board of directors of Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and is a Lifetime Member and past President of Fountain Valley Kiwanis Club. Mr. Groeneveld holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Springfield College and was named the Orange County Boys & Girls Clubs CEO of the Year in 2026.
Ryan Brenes
Chief Operating Officer
Ryan has more than 15 years of experience at Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley, including roles as Unit Director at several of the Club’s locations. He is an alum of the organization’s Kingston Branch and is proud to have his two children attend the Club as well. Ryan is skilled in making each of our staff members feel valued and empowered while helping them reach the highest standards of quality programming for the youth we serve. Ryan is certified by Boys & Girls Clubs of America as a Level I NTI trainer and serves on the steering committee for Imagine Science Orange County. He holds a degree in Cognitive Science from UC San Diego.
Laura Portier-LaLumiere
Chief Advancement Officer
Laura has led the organization’s fundraising and marketing for more than 20 years. She loves sharing the stories of children and families that the Boys & Girls Club has made a difference to and she is dedicated to making the Club’s programs accessible to the families who need them most. In her volunteer work, Laura has served on the boards of several nonprofits focused on education and youth sports, is an alumni ambassador for her college, is active in her local Rotary Club, and spent a decade as a digital content creator for the City Mom Collective. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from Mount St. Mary’s University (MD) and a master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from Regis University. In 2025, she was named Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Outstanding Development Professional of the Year.

More than 250 trained individuals make up the professional staff of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley. Listed below is our Leadership Team. In addition to the Leadership Team, our Program Directors, Preschool Teachers, Recreation Staff, Office Managers, Office Assistants, Advancement Staff, Bus Drivers, League Coordinators, Sports Referees, Contracted Performing & Martial Arts Instructors, and facility-related Support Staff all make a difference to the kids at the Boys & Girls Club every day.

Flor Aldaz
Robert Mayer Preschool, Site Director
Flor earned a Bachelor’s in Child Development and Family Studies and a Masters of Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood from Cal. State University of Long Beach. Since 2013, she has been committed to the field of early childhood education, progressing from a preschool teacher to program coordinator, and currently serving as a site director. Throughout her career, she has remained dedicated to fostering a supportive and enriching environment where children can develop and thrive. She is equally passionate about building strong partnerships with families, ensuring that parents feel connected and engaged in their child’s experience. In addition, she prioritizes cultivating a positive and collaborative workplace where educators feel valued, supported, and empowered in their roles. Outside of my professional responsibilities, she values spending time with her family and pursuing opportunities to travel and experience new cultures.
Michelle Alvarez
Director of Family Support Programs
Michelle oversees the Club’s sites on school campuses and our Oak View Branch. She has more than 10 years of experience in youth development. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Fullerton, a master’s degree in Education from Concordia University Irvine, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership with a focus on organizational change at Concordia University Irvine. She serves as the Class Champion for the Robert Mayer Leadership Academy Class of 2026.
Vicki Bansberg
Director of Transportation & Maintenance
Vicki has dedicated 30 years to the school bus industry. She worked my way up from a School Bus Driver to a Dispatcher, Transportation Supervisor, and ultimately into executive leadership. She is a passionate advocate for student safety— she truly “bleeds yellow” and considers the school bus to be the safest form of transportation for our kids. To support the industry, she is actively involved with the Orange County Driver Trainer Advisory Council (OCDTAC) and the California Association of School Transportation Officials (CASTO). She is proud to support BGCHV’s incredible mission and bring a high level of expertise to the organization to better serve our members.
Susan Bixler
Learning Center Preschool, Site Director
Susan Bixler is the Site Director for the Learning Center Child Development Preschool in Fountain Valley. She has been with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley since 1995 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in both the organization and the field of Early Childhood Education. Susan holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and has completed numerous Early Childhood Education courses with an emphasis in leadership and family engagement. Throughout her years with the organization, she has played an instrumental role in the growth and continuous improvement of the preschool programs and has been a key contributor in developing high-quality learning environments for children and families.
Ryan Gassis
HB Branch, Unit Director
Ryan’s career at the Boys & Girls Club started almost 10 years ago. She began her career at the Club as a Youth Development Professional and quickly advanced through the roles of Program Coordinator and Program Director before moving into her current position of Unit Director. Ryan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with dual minors in Education and Applied Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Sami Hour
Director of Preschool Programs
Sami Hour brings decades of experience working with children ages six weeks to six years old and has served the children of the Boys & Girls Club since 1997. She has advanced through multiple roles including teacher, Program Director, Unit Director and now oversees both of our preschools.
Sami holds degrees in Human Development and Child & Adolescent Studies, with an emphasis in Infant/Toddler Development. She also holds a Director’s Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and serves as a Professional Growth Advisor for Orange County, supporting educators in achieving their professional goals. A passionate advocate for high-quality early childhood education, Sami is an active member of the Orange County Association for the Education of Young Children and the SNevAEYC and serves on several committees, including Professional Development, Membership, and Public Policy. She is also involved with Golden West College through the Student Parent Task Force and as an advisory board member with EOPC/CARE/NextUp/Guardian Scholars, and CalWorks, supporting student success and community partnerships.
Sem Ibrahim
ClubHouse Academy, Unit Director
Sem has extensive experience in youth development, education, community engagement, and program management. His professional background includes leadership and service roles with AmeriCorps, AVID, Think Together, and the YMCA, along with grassroots marketing experience in professional sports through the Orange County Blues (formerly LA Blues). He holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology from California State University, Long Beach. Sem use his expertise in relationship building, community outreach, strategic partnerships, and program development to help create meaningful impact for the children in our sports and performing arts programs.
Diana Kacic
FV Kingston Branch, Unit Director
Diana has been part of the Boys & Girls Club family for nearly 20 years. She started at the Club as a Youth Development Professional working in the teaching kitchen and kinder rooms, and worked her way up, now managing the team at the Kingston Branch. She has a bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorders from Cal State Long Beach. In her free time, she enjoys travel and the outdoors, especially visiting National Parks.
Eileen Luong
Development Manager
Eileen has built a 15+ year career advancing the organization’s mission through expert event coordination, grant management, donor stewardship, and operational leadership. In her current role, she serves as the operational backbone of the Advancement Department, overseeing special events, grant compliance, budget monitoring, and board support. Eileen holds a Bachelor of Business in Finance from California State University, Fullerton.
Alejandra Morales
Pacific Life Foundation Branch, Unit Director
Alejandra has spent the last 10 years growing, learning, and having lots of fun with our Club members and team at the Pacific Life Foundation Branch. As the Unit Director, no two days are ever the same and that’s exactly how we create memorable experiences to help our Club members learn, grow and discover their personalities. Whether she’s solving problems, celebrating milestones, or joining in a silly game, Alejandra’s goal is to help every Club member feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to be their best self. When she’s not at the Club, you’ll likely find her planning the next big event at a local coffee shop or at the dog park. She is a graduate of California State University, Long Beach with a degree in Political Science with a focus on Legal Studies and Social Change.
Kim Nguyen
Director of Finance
Kim has served as the Club’s Director of Finance since 2006. She has a bachelor’s degree in Business Adminstration with a Concentration in Accounting. She loves to be part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley and use her expertise to make the Club a better and happier place.
Alex Wasilewski, IV
Vice President of Business Administration
Alex Wasilewski, IV is the VP of Business Administration at Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley, where he has served since May 2025. With over a decade of experience in finance and FP&A, Alex has held roles spanning medical devices, media, real estate, and business process outsourcing. He holds a BS in Financial Management from Salve Regina University and an MS in Project Management from University of Southern California.
