It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that we are mourning a great loss within our Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley family. We recently lost a man who helped start this incredible organization and helped lead our team for more than 50 years – Mr. Ed Arnold.
Ed grew up at a Club in Texarkana, Arkansas, in the 1950s. He credits the Boys & Girls Club he attended in Texarkana with making a huge impact in his life and providing the needed support for his single mom. He never forgot that impact. When his career as a broadcaster started taking off, he knew he wanted to give back to the community and he became one of the founding board members of our Club.
Since our founding in 1967, Ed never forgot about the Club or the kids. He chaired
our annual benefit for decades, right up until last November, and helped raise
millions to keep our organization thriving. He worked tirelessly to support our
organization and ensure we had the resources needed to reach as many children as
possible.
Ed was inducted into Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Hall of Fame and recently received Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Lifetime Achievement Award for a Board Member. These are the highest honors for a Club Kid and a Club Board Member. He earned and deserved both for his personal achievements in the entertainment and news industry and the extraordinary dedication he showed to our Club and our kids. You may not have had the pleasure of meeting and working with Ed, but he was one of the Club’s biggest cheerleaders and our organization wouldn’t be here without him. He was a true advocate for the children of our community.
Ed’s beloved wife Dixie has asked us to share an opportunity to donate to the Club in Ed’s memory. If you would like to make a donation to honor Ed’s incredible legacy of caring for our community’s kids, you can make your gift here.
Ed would always say, “It’s for the kids!” In his honor, let’s remember that every time you team up with the Club as a volunteer, a donor, or an advocate in the community, everything we do is for the kids. Thank you for being part of our Boys & Girls Club family and for all that you do for the kids.
